Hardwood
Description
Hardwood is a rigid, durable flooring material. It is available in solid
or laminated planks, and in laminated parquet squares. Most hardwood flooring
as tongue-and-groove construction to enhance bonding between pieces.
Uses
Hardwood floors give a warm and elegant look to any room and are sturdy
enough to hold up well in high-traffic areas. Hardwood floors are particularly
popular in dining rooms, living rooms, and entryways.
Type
Traditional solid-wood planks are the most common type of hardwood used
in flooring, but the growing selection of plywood-backed and synthetic-laminate
products is well suited for do-it-yourselfers. Oak and maple are the most
common wood species available, and size options include narrow strips,
wide planks, and parquet squares.
