Carpet

Description
Carpet is a soft, flexible floor covering made of synthetic or natural fibers bonded to a mesh backing and usually sold in 12-ft-wide rolls. It is most commonly available in solid colors, although many patterns are also available.

Uses
Carpet is a popular choice for bedrooms, family rooms, and hall ways. It is chosen primarily for comfort, rather than durability, although new, improved materials are increasingly resistant to wear.

Types
The two basic types of carpeting are loop-pile, which uses uncut loops of yarn to create a textured look and feel, and cut-pile, which has trimmed fibers that give a more uniform appearance. The two pile types can be combined in one carpet. Some types of carpet come with a cushioned backing already attached and are designed for easy glue-down installation.
